Mixed xylene is a mixture of o-xylene, m-xylene, p-xylene and ethyl benzene. It is a colorless transparent liquid, soluble in ethanol and ether, insoluble in water.  When used as a chemical raw material, the isomers can be pre-separated. The mixture is mainly used as a solvent for paints and coatings and as an aviation gasoline additive.
